If you’ve ever menstruated (or even if you personally haven’t, you probably love someone who has), journey with me for a moment to the early days of sex ed; to the tender and impressionable age of 5th or 6th grade… you were told that period pain is normal. Soon, you reach the glorious menarche (which means, your very first period - epic right?) and you start to experience excruciating cycles… but you were told that this was normal, so you just deal.
Then maybe you have other symptoms pop up, such as headaches or acne or mood swings or any number of unpleasant things and you finally make it to a doctor. Turns out they too think that period pain is normal (ugh). But they say “hey, why not try hormonal birth control?” So you get on it, and maybe it reduces some symptoms or maybe it makes everything 10x worse, but you’re still just dealing with the monthly pain. Then you get off the pill and everything is exponentially worse. So you end up failing that final because your brain and your uterus are useless mush or you miss your best friend’s birthday party because you’re too irritable to talk to anyone or you have to call out of work because you’re in the fetal position on your bathroom floor.
With all of this lost time in our work lives/ social lives/ academic lives/ LIVES IN GENERAL, why are we settling? With the 600 million hours of lost productivity, why is the only answer from our trusted doctors something like birth control? Which has been shown to just mask the symptoms rather than actually treating the root cause of the pain. Why are they still prescribing outdated medication which has been shown to completely miss the mark on what it is supposed to do anyway and is proven to have potential long-term harm to our health?!
Well, the answer to that will be disappointing and in the past, so let’s not focus on the why, but more the how we change it. We firmly believe that the future is FEMALE and that future is NOW.
We acknowledge that your pain is real.
We stand behind you as you fight for solutions.
We are here to help you stay educated about your body and your cycle.
This last part is key. Your health should be a collaboration between you and your doctor. Long gone are the days where we blindly follow doctor’s orders (please note, I said blindly, obviously they can and should be consulted and trusted). You are the only one who can advocate for YOU. You should never be afraid to ask questions or challenge decisions. Never be afraid to learn more. Never settle for anything less than stellar.
Yes, we provide a service with the goal of rebalancing your body. However, what is most important to us is empowering you, the women of the world, to take control of your bodies, talk about your cycles, and be able to put your best foot forward every single day of the month.
